Barry McQueen, the Blackpool Town Crier, reading out the Lancashire Day Proclamation by the Silver Model of the Tower.    It had been planned to read the Proclamation at the top of Blackpool Tower but it was too windy and the Tower was closed.

The Silver Model was presented to the chairman of the Tower Company, Alderman (later Sir) John Bickerstaffe by the shareholders in 1889 in appreciation of his role in ensuring the Tower was built.

When the BBC Programme was staged in the Tower in 1989, its experts were asked to give a valuation of the Silver Tower, but they would not hazard a guess.

They have been collaborating with Turner's Butchers who are situated in the traditional market hall, Darwen. Turners have had a butchers stall there for over 50yrs, so what better way to promote Lancashire Day in Darwen.  Darwen Local History Society has re-instated a Darwen town crier to read the proclamation and promote their 'Darwen Banger' beef 'n' ale sausage. They are hoping to make it a really historical event by using the original bellringer/town crier's  bell, for the first time it will have been used for over 100yrs. Proclamation at 12:00 and again at 1:00 outside Darwen Market Hall, Croft St. They will be serving samples of our beef 'n' ale sausage in between. www.dlhs.co.uk
