Sidmouth and District Lancastrian Association's day out

15 August 2017 06:20

On the 14th July this year, 36 members and friends of the Sidmouth and District Lancastrian Association travelled by coach to the excellent Bishops Lydeard Mill, Rural Life and Transport Museum in Somerset. After a fascinating visit, we boarded a steam train on the West Somerset Railway which is England's longest heritage standard gauge railway running twenty miles through ten stations before terminating at Minehead on the Somerset coast. We lunched together whilst speeding through the glorious Somerset countryside, and being very fortunate with a beautiful day everyone enjoyed themselves in true Lancastrian fashion.

Note: The Association was founded in 1959 to promote fellowship among Lancastrian people residing in Sidmouth and District.

We hold coffee mornings and lunches which includes a special Lancashire Day Lunch on the 27th November each year when the Lancashire Day Proclamation is read out and the toast is : 'God bless Lancashire and God Save the Queen, Duke of Lancaster'.
